In order to proactively combat tax evasion, many of the powers and activities of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are continually evolving. Understanding HMRC’s current position will enable taxpayers to ensure that they remain compliant in their tax affairs, and take prompt action if a potential problem is identified.
Localised HMRC activities
HMRC have identified various industries and regions which they consider to be high risk for tax evasion. These regions or industries have been subject to increased monitoring and investigation through designated taskforces.
When HMRC have identified a specific group or type of taxpayer to target, they will run campaigns offering an opportunity for these taxpayers to set matters right.
